Nurses from The Philippines are essential to the growth of Canada’s healthcare system. Canadian Visa Professionals could establish that Filipino nurses are in high demand in Canada to help fill the nursing shortages that have led to E.R. closures, delayed surgeries and long waits for patients in emergency rooms.

CBC News has discovered that the recruitment process for nurses from The Philippines has been in existence since the 1960s.

Many Canadian experts emphasize the importance of Filipino nurses to Canada’s healthcare system, because they make up a growing portion of regulated nurses in Canada.

A 2021 statistic from the Canadian Institute of Health Information (CIHI) shows that four percent of regulated nurses working in Canada graduated from The Philippines.

Canadian Provinces Interested in Recruiting Nurses from The Philippines

Canadian Visa Professionals says several provinces in Canada are on a mission to recruit Filipino nurses, and many of these government and medical leaders have travelled several times to The Philippines.

These trips are important steps to highlight all that Canada has to offer, attract new nursing talent, and add capacity to contribute to the healthcare workforce of the future.

Provinces such as British Columbia (B.C.), Nova Scotia, Saskatchewan, New Brunswick and Manitoba sent government and health officials to talk with nursing schools and Filipino politicians about nursing education and credentialing.

These representatives will often present to interested applicants in The Philippines as part of these recruitment efforts, telling them the structures they have in place and the incentives for nurses interested in working in their provinces.
